At Hugo, we try to give you maximum flexibility to choose when and how you pay for insurance. That's why we offer the option to use Auto Reload (which automatically reloads your account when it's empty) or add money yourself (whenever it's convenient for you).
To stay insured, simply add money to your account before your account hits empty - your “due date.”
If you are not able to add money to your account before it hits empty, we give you the option to cancel your insurance coverage, rather than overdraw your account and owe a balance.
We will always tell you the date and time that your account will hit empty so you can schedule your insurance to cancel if you are unable to make your payment in time.
If you must briefly cancel your insurance coverage, we recommend that you try to reload your account and restart coverage as soon as possible. If your insurance stays cancelled for more than 3 days, you may incur a fee depending on your state. Hugo lets you pay fees over time so coverage stays affordable, but you may see your daily rate change slightly as a result.
Please note, once your policy cancels you will not be covered if you are in an accident. Your vehicle registration status may also be at risk. Because your state may not allow you to drive your vehicle uninsured, when your coverage is off we recommend considering public transportation or carpooling with a friend until you're able to reload your account and restart your insurance.
