What happens if I run out of money and can't reload my Hugo account?

At Hugo, we’ve got your back. If your balance is empty and you don't have enough money to add to your account, don’t worry - you’ve got a couple of options, depending on your coverage plan.

If you have a Hugo Flex Plan (CA and IL only):

Option 1: Turn OFF your insurance. You won’t be charged for more coverage, and you can add money on your schedule.

Option 2: Extend your coverage: Hugo will pay to keep you covered for several days. Click on “Extend my coverage” when your account is empty to see how many days you qualify for, then confirm and claim to stay insured.  Your insurance will now stay on through the end of your extension period, and you’ll owe your flat daily rate for each day used (no extra fees or interest).. To remain insured you must repay any balance owed and add money to your Hugo account before the end of your extension period.

Option 3: Carpool or take public transportation until you’ve got the money to ADD days to your account and reactivate your policy - you can add as little as 1 day.

If you have a Basic or Full Plan:

Option 1: Turn OFF your insurance. To find the ON/OFF toggle, tap My Policy in the bottom bar. Note, your rate may change slightly when you turn back on.Basic_OFF.png
