If I turn OFF my insurance, will the DMV know? Do I stay registered?

If your insurance is OFF for 7 days or more, our insurance partner is obligated to notify the DMV of a lapse in insurance. The good news is the fix is easy - to avoid any lapses (as well as any notices from the DMV) - we suggest you turn ON your insurance at least 1x/week.
