If I turn OFF my insurance, will the DMV know? Do I stay registered?

With our Hugo Basic plan, you can think of turning OFF your insurance as cancelling your insurance policy. When you turn OFF and cancel your policy, your carrier is obligated to notify the DMV of a lapse in insurance coverage.

This notification from your carrier can take place in as little as 24 hours.

For this reason, we recommend to members with a Hugo Basic plan to keep their insurance ON. If you need to turn OFF (cancel) your policy, please know that your daily rate will remain the same for 3 days (we call this "Rate Safe"). After that, a fee will need to be applied and you'll see a slight increase in your daily rate. We'll always ask for your approval if your rate changes.
