Hugo is leaving California

Our insurance partner, SafeAuto, is stopping operations in California. As a result, Hugo will no longer be able to provide services in California.

Will I still have coverage?

Yes, you will remain covered by your existing policy until the end of the policy term. To see when your policy period ends, visit the proof of insurance view in your member account. You can also find your expiration date inside your policy packet.

Impact on Coverages

After August 25, 2023 at 11:59 pm PDT, you will not be able to change your Hugo plan (for example, from Flex to Basic, or from Basic to Flex), but you will still be able to adjust the coverage levels and types offered on your existing plan. 

Will my policy renew?

If you received a renewal notice prior to August 25, 2023 at 11:59 pm PDT, then yes - your policy will renew at the stated renewal time. Six months after that, your policy will expire and will not be renewed again.

If you did not receive a renewal offer before August 25, 2023 at 11:59 pm PDT, then your policy will expire on your policy expiration date.

Will my experience using Hugo change?

Your Hugo account and experience using Hugo will not be impacted for the remainder of your policy period. You can continue to manage your insurance, add and withdraw money, and get instant proof of insurance all from inside your account.

Finding coverage elsewhere

To find coverage elsewhere, we recommend you visit Insurify before the end of your current Hugo policy period to find quotes from other carriers operating in California.

Will Hugo ever come back to California?
