You may have received a notice or form in the mail from your state for one of the following reasons:
- Your policy is not on file with the state, due to a systems error
- Your coverage was not active when the state ran a verification check
- Your state requires proof of coverage following an accident or other incident
If you received a notice or form in mail from your state, or your local DMV was unable to find your policy in their system, we can help.
- Login to your account and click the Help icon.
- Click on “Submit my policy to the state.” If you are in Georgia, click on “Update GEICS”.
- Tell us what form you received (if any) and upload your form. If sharing a photo, please make sure it’s clear and all text is easy to read.
After you submit, please allow 2-3 business days for state systems to update with your policy information. We’ll work with your carrier to submit your policy and clear any notice of suspension immediately. You’ll get an email from us with next steps as soon as the submission is complete.
Finally, if you have just purchased Hugo insurance for the first time - or reinstated a policy after being OFF (lapsed) for a period of time - be aware that your carrier requires 2-3 business days to file and update your policy with your state.
If your state still does not show a record of your policy after 3 business days, complete the steps above to file a help request, and we will re-submit your policy.
